Leeming and West Leeming primary schools are among hundreds of schools to receive funding for busy bees under an innovative State Government grants program.

Education Minister Kay Hallahan said the program aimed to encourage parent participation in school improvement projects.

Mrs Hallahan said the program - renewed in the 1992-93 State Budget - was part of the Lawrence Government's unprecedented $75 million, two-year school improvement program.

"Many parents donate their time and labour to special projects at their local school and the grants contribute to the cost of materials," Mrs Hallahan said.

"Grants can be used for a range of projects such as landscaping, outdoor seating, bike enclosures, cricket wickets or playground equipment."

Parents at West Leeming PS received the maximum grant of $1,500 to install new outdoor climbing and play equipment at the school.

Leeming PS received $1,500 to install patio shelters outside five demountable classrooms.
