Auction of unclaimed bicycles

More than 280 unclaimed bicycles will be auctioned on behalf of the Police Department in Perth tomorrow morning.

More than 280 unclaimed bicycles will be auctioned on behalf of the Police Department in Perth tomorrow morning.

Services Minister Jim McGinty said prices at previous auctions ranged from $1 to $450 - and all bikes would be sold.

"The auctions have been very successful, with more than 1,500 people attending the last held in October last year," Mr McGinty said.

"As well as relieving the Police Department of the need to dispose of the bikes, the auctions have been extremely popular with bargain hunters."

Under the Police Act, bicycles handed in to the Police Department are retained for six months before disposal to give owners an opportunity to identify and claim their property.

Mr McGinty said the auction would be held at the State Supply Disposals Centre in Pilbara Street, Welshpool, from 9 am tomorrow and the bicycles could be inspected one hour prior to the start.
