Bill to increase size of D'Entrecasteaux National Park

D'Entrecasteaux National Park in the South-West of the State will double in size under new legislation introduced into State Parliament.

D'Entrecasteaux National Park in the South-West of the State will double in size under new legislation introduced into State Parliament.

Environment Minister Bob Pearce said the legislation was expected to be enacted during the Spring session.

"The legislation will enable the size of the park to be increased by 75 per cent to 1,145 square kilometres, with the addition of a number of areas of crown land," Mr Pearce said.

"This, in addition to the adjacent Walpole-Nornalup national park and nature reserves in the area, will mean that the conservation zone will extend for 120 kilometres along the south coast, from Augusta to Walpole."

Also included in the legislation are plans to increase the size of the John Forrest national park near Perth.

Land acquired by the State Planning Commission will be added to the park, increasing it by 77 per cent.

The additions follow the EPA's System Six recommendations and will increase the park's total area to about 26.7 square kilometres.
