Clarification of Anzac Day retail trading situation
Consumer Affairs Minister Yvonne Henderson today acted to clarify the Anzac Day retail trading situation.
Mrs Henderson said it appeared some businesses were confused by the unusual holiday arrangements, which affect retailers only.
"Ministry of Consumer Affairs officers have taken many calls in recent weeks from businesses who are unsure if or when they can open over the Anzac Day long weekend," Mrs Henderson said.
"General retail shops are required to keep their shops closed on Anzac Day.
"Proprietors of small and special retail shops that hold a certificate to open on Sundays and public holidays can open on Anzac Day.
"Any shop proprietor can open for trade on Monday April 27 during normal trading hours."
Mrs Henderson emphasised that these arrangements did not affect businesses other than retail shops.
