Go-ahead for work on Joondalup Central Park
Planning Minister David Smith has given the go-ahead for work to start immediately on the City of Joondalup's Central Park.
Mr Smith said today that the contract for the work had been awarded to Ertech Pty Limited, a Western Australian civil works construction company.
"Ertech submitted the lowest of five tenders for the $2.6 million project," Mr Smith said.
"It will co-ordinate the construction of irrigation systems, pathways, paved areas, grassed open spaces, limestone walls, lighting and the lake and watercourse which will be a central feature of the park."
Mr Smith said the design of the lake had been undertaken in close consultation with Joondalup TAFE and the Building Management Authority. Part of the lake would be situated on the TAFE site.
Special thanks were also due to Wanneroo MLA Jackie Watkins who had input to the planning on behalf of local community groups.
"The lake will be an attractive focal point in the park and future buildings will be oriented to take advantage of the views it will afford," Mr Smith said.
"Various arts projects, including the creation of water features associated with the park's water courses, will add to this outlook.
"The lake will also provide a water source for all landscaped areas in the Joondalup city centre."
Mr Smith said Ertech would complete its contract in 26 weeks. Landcorp's day-labour landscape staff would then complete the planting of trees and shrubs throughout the park ahead of its official opening in March next year.
