Governor to extend term of office
The Governor, Sir Francis Burt, has agreed to extend his two-year term until June 30, 1992.
Premier Carmen Lawrence today announced the extension, which has received the informal approval of the Queen.
She said Sir Francis originally agreed to a term concluding on March 19, 1992.
"Sir Francis has done an outstanding job as Governor, after taking over from the late Professor Gordon Reid," Dr Lawrence said.
"The Government is grateful to Sir Francis for agreeing to the extension to allow all the necessary procedures for the appointment of his successor."
