Heritage Council to control Swan Brewery development
The Heritage Council of Western Australia will be the sole controlling and approval authority for a number of aspects of the development of the Old Swan Brewery precinct by the Western Australian company, Multiplex.
Heritage Minister Jim McGinty said he had accepted a recommendation from the Heritage Council that an order under Section 38 of the Heritage Act of Western Australia be issued to allow Multiplex to proceed with conservation works at the site.
"The Heritage Council has recommended that the Order be issued to provide an incentive to the conservation of the brewery buildings and to permit conservation works to be carried out as soon as practicable," Mr McGinty said.
"The Order means that certain approvals required by Multiplex can now be issued by the Heritage Council of Western Australia."
The Section 38 Order issued by the Minister will apply to:
· parts VIII and XV of the Local Government Act 1960;
· the Town Planning and Development Act 1928;
· the Metropolitan Region Town Planning Scheme Act 1959 (other than section 41);
· the Metropolitan Region Scheme;
· the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972.
Mr McGinty said any approvals covered by the Order would only be issued following agreement by the Heritage Council.
