Homeswest seminars to help home buyers
Buying a home is usually the biggest investment people make - for that reason the State Government's housing arm, Homeswest, will hold a series of home buyers' nights aimed at helping people make the right choices.
Housing Minister Jim McGinty said the free seminars would provide a one-stop 'information shop' for home buyers and involve representatives from organisations across the housing industry spectrum.
"People will be able to gain information from financial institutions, settlement agents, real estate and building institutes, land developers, surveyors, insurance companies and pest control companies."
Mr McGinty said the first of Homeswest's home buyers' nights was scheduled for Tuesday (October 27) at 7.30pm at the Ascot Racecourse - with the second at the Fremantle Town Hall on November 16.
Further seminars would be held in a variety of metropolitan and country venues next year.
Mr McGinty said that many prospective home buyers might not fully appreciate the implications of owning a home or the range of options to them in making that decision.
"The home buyer nights will help people - particularly first-home buyers - make informed choices when they purchase a home," he said.
"The topics to be covered at the seminars include the legal pitfalls of buying a home, housing affordability, home loan schemes, local property values and the benefits of using a registered builder.
"Hopefully we will be able to provide a better insight into home buying and I would urge all interested people to attend one of the scheduled evenings," Mr McGinty said.
