Plans to redevelop Kings Park complex announced
The State Government has approved plans to completely re-develop the Kings Park restaurant complex in Perth.
Environment Minister Bob Pearce says an agreement between the Kings Park Board and Australian Tourist Restaurants Pty Ltd, will see the complex completely re-built and re-fitted at a total cost of $7 million.
As a security to carry out the re-development, the company, which is associated with the Spotless Catering group, will advance $5 million to the Kings Park Board as an interest-free loan.
The loan will be repaid out of extra rent paid by the company over the first ten years.
The agreement was drawn up with the help of the Crown Law Department and approved by Cabinet on Treasury advice.
Mr Pearce said the complex was expected to be completed in 18 months but as part of the agreement, improved temporary facilities would be put in place over the next three weeks.
"The new complex will be based on local architect Michael Fitzhardinge's 1988 winning design and will incorporate improved tourist facilities, visitor information centre and souvenir shop, plus a tea room and kiosk, in addition to the new restaurant.
"The Spotless group, or Nationwide, as they are known in Western Australia, are very experienced in all sections of the catering industry and have been active in this State for 25 years, currently employing 700 staff," Mr Pearce said.
"They will offer visitors and tourists alike a wide range of services from snack bar to family and budget meals to fine dining."
