Public urged to recycle Yellow Pages phone books
Environment Minister Jim McGinty has called on Perth businesses and householders to put their outdated Yellow Pages telephone books to good use - recycle them.
Mr McGinty said that to coincide with the distribution of the new Yellow Pages, Telecom Australia had arranged a collection program for old telephone directories.
"As a community we are becoming more environmentally aware and many Western Australian households and businesses practice recycling measures," Mr McGinty said.
"Under the recycling program, businesses in the central business district with more than 60 telephone books can call Telecom to arrange collection from their building.
"Private householders or smaller businesses can take their old telephone books to 'book muncher' bins at BP service stations throughout the metropolitan area."
Mr McGinty said a similar recycling campaign in August for the White Pages had been fairly well supported.
"I would encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of this free recycling service - which ultimately benefits the environment."
The collection program will run until Thursday, December 24.
