Premier Carmen Lawrence announced today that Sir Roderick Carnegie had accepted her invitation to head an independent review of the structure of SECWA.

The announcement results from the Premier's commitment in 'The WA Advantage' to achieve lower energy costs for Western Australian industry.

"I am delighted that Sir Roderick has accepted my invitation," the Premier said.

"His extensive experience and commitment to Australian industry are unparalleled and will be a great asset to Western Australia."

Sir Roderick Carnegie was the former President of the Business Council of Australia and the former chairman and chief executive of CRA Ltd.

"Sir Roderick will head a three-member Review Board," the Premier said.

"Discussions are taking place with prominent Western Australian industrialists to complete the Board.

"The Review Board will be supported by a review team, headed by Mr Bill Heron, Deputy Under Treasurer, and including experienced Government and SECWA officers.

"The first phase of the review, which is under way, will assess the Industry Commission Report and SECWA studies and identify independent, technical, commercial and legal advice necessary to support the review.

"The second phase will begin with the release of detailed terms of reference in early May 1992."

The Leader of the Opposition had been consulted to ensure bipartisan support for the review.

Stakeholders, including major energy users and suppliers, peak industry bodies, SECWA and its employees, would be consulted extensively during the review process.
