WA computer manufacturer secures overseas contract
A Western Australian computer manufacturer has secured a $3 million deal with Switzerland and Iran as a result of the Government's countertrade arrangements.
Westronic Australia, a control systems producer, has a contract to supply Asea Brown Boveri's Swiss operation with 58 remote terminal units for on sale to the National Iranian Power Company (SABA).
Minister with special responsibility for trade, Gordon Hill, said there was also a flow-on potential to Westronic of another $2 million by supplying other contractors to SABA.
Two representatives of ABB and four from Iran met with Mr Hill during a week-long visit.
Westronic produces world quality control systems. Remote terminal units are used for the power generation and distribution industry.
Westronic signed an Original Equipment Manufacturer Agreement with ABB.
Mr Hill said the Government's countertrade policy - a strong focus of the 'WA Advantage', had facilitated a multi-national corporation joining forces with a local manufacturer to boost its exports.
