All aboard inclusive children's playground
- $4.8 million inclusive playground officially opened in Hilbert
- Playground design accessible to children with disability
Children with disability can now access a new inclusive playground in Sienna Wood, Hilbert.
The Sienna Wood Shipwreck Adventure Park was officially opened today by Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson. The 6,000 square metre playground, within the 6.3 hectare park, gives children with disability the opportunity to play, explore and socialise.
The playground is part of the Sienna Wood development, delivered in partnership between the Department of Communities (Housing) and Stockland.
Today's opening marks the United Nations-sanctioned International Day of People with Disability and the start of Disability Awareness Week, which runs from December 3-9. It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contribution of people with disability and highlight the value of inclusive and accessible communities.
Comments attributed to Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
"The opening of Shipwreck Park is a timely reminder of the importance of creating inclusive and accessible communities, which is a focus of both the International Day of People with Disability and Disability Awareness Week.
"Building communities that focus on being inclusive and accessible means better opportunities and outcomes for everyone, both now and into the future.
"I encourage everyone to consider how they can work together to make a stronger community."
Comments attributed to Housing Minister Peter Tinley:
"The department and Stockland committed $4.8 million to build Shipwreck Park, which features play equipment and facilities for people with a diverse range of abilities and interests.
"This incredible park has everything from musical instruments, climbing nets and a flying fox, to barbecue facilities and large turfed areas for sporting activities.
"Between 80 and 100 people were employed during construction, and the park will support three ongoing jobs in the areas of landscape maintenance and the shipping container cafe."
