Attorney General announces new magistrate appointment
- New appointment to the Magistrates Court of Western Australia
- Appointment effective from November 6, 2017
The McGowan Labor Government has appointed Belinda Coleman as a magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.
Ms Coleman completed her Bachelor of Laws with Honours at La Trobe University in Victoria in 2005, while working full time as a police prosecutor.
In 2006, Ms Coleman completed her articles of clerkship at Freehills in Melbourne and Perth. She was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of WA in 2007.
Ms Coleman is currently a State Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia, a position which she has held since 2010.

"I congratulate Ms Coleman on her appointment as a magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.
"Ms Coleman has more than 16 years of combined legal experience, in addition to five years' experience in general duties policing.
"As a police prosecutor, Ms Coleman spent many years conducting criminal trials in the Victorian Magistrates Courts.
"In 2006 she was awarded the Victorian Police Service Medal for 10 years of diligent and ethical service.
"Throughout her police prosecuting role and her current role at the ODPP, Ms Coleman has prosecuted in excess of 150 trials in the Magistrates and District Courts.
"Her unique combination of experience as a police officer, civil litigator and State Prosecutor equip her with the skills and knowledge to perform the duties of a magistrate to the highest standard.
"Ms Coleman's skills and experience make her ideally suited to this new role."
