Bunbury roads, rail and revitalisation in State Budget

The McGowan Government's State Budget has delivered significant funding for transport and redevelopment projects that will keep the Bunbury area moving and boost its status as a major regional centre.
A package of road, rail and redevelopment projects worth $79 million over four years will see Bunbury develop the necessary infrastructure to support jobs and economic growth.
As promised, $32 million has been allocated for the Australind rail service to replace the existing train and upgrade stations. Transwa is also exploring ways of decreasing journey times.
There is also significant funding to progress the Bunbury Waterfront project, enhancing the area as a thriving hub of tourism, jobs and commercial opportunity.
The Budget includes funding for the following projects over the forward estimates:
- A $32 million investment in the Rail Future Fund to deliver a revitalised Australind rail service;
- $12.5 million for the Bunbury Outer Ring Road;
- $34.4 million for the Transforming Bunbury Waterfront project; and
- $500,000 for planning for the development of Bunbury Port
A total of $636 million has been allocated for important capital works in the South-West, which will have flow-on benefits for the entire State.
Meanwhile, for 2017-18 alone, there is a $65.8 million capital works budget for roads throughout the South-West region.
