Education support facility to open for Aveley students in 2019
- Education support facilities at Aveley North Primary School announced
- First students off to a great start at brand new school
An education support facility will be built at Aveley North Primary School to help cater for young students with autism or disability.
Construction of the specialist facility will begin this year before opening for students in 2019. Students will be able to share the state-of-the-art amenities in the education support hub at nearby Aveley Secondary College, including the hydrotherapy pool.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery announced the new building today during a visit to Aveley North Primary School, where kindergarten and pre-primary students started the school year.
They are the first students to attend the brand new school, which opened with temporary facilities ahead of the completion of permanent buildings in 2019.
Once completed, the school will include five permanent teaching blocks, an administration area, a dental therapy centre, an undercover area, a library, and extensive sporting facilities with multi-purpose courts and an oval.
The McGowan Government is investing more than $477 million to build new schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.
Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"The McGowan Government is working to build outstanding facilities across the State to ensure families can access the best education close to home.
"This announcement means families of both primary and secondary students will have access to specialist autism and disability support systems and facilities in their local area.
"The north-eastern suburbs are continuing to grow and it's important our education system keeps up with the rising population, and eases pressure on existing schools."
Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:
"We have a pressing need for this support centre. Parents, teachers and principals have told me about students currently travelling at least an hour a day to the nearest support centre in Bayswater. That's a long way for any primary school student to travel each day.
"It is so important that children with autism and disabilities are supported and receive the best possible education. I'm thrilled the McGowan Government will deliver a specialist facility in the local area."
