Students at Byford Secondary College have started the new school year in brand new facilities following the completion of the third and final stage of works.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today officially opened the new building and facilities for Year 11 and 12 students, worth $15.9 million.
The new building includes 15 general classrooms, two education support classrooms, three IT laboratories, a business studies classroom and a 75-seat lecture theatre.
Byford Secondary College opened in 2014 with 167 Year 8 students. Now completed, the college has more than 1,250 students from Years 7 to 12. The first two stages of construction included an arts facility, gymnasium and support for students with disabilities.
This is the first year group of students in Year 12 at the school.
Last year, the McGowan Government announced an $18.9 million primary school will be built on Lawrence Way in Byford. The school was a key election commitment, with construction expected to start this year ahead of the school opening in 2020.
The McGowan Government has invested more than $477 million to build new schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, creating jobs for Western Australians and ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.
