Guildford Road process complete
- Minister for Planning stops Guildford Road amendment and prevents impact on landowners
- Decision honours election commitment and reflects community concern over potential effect to businesses, homes and heritage
The McGowan Labor Government has met its election commitment to stop the proposed Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment concerning Guildford Road.
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti refused Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment 1310/41 - Guildford Road following a recommendation by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) earlier this week.
Ms Saffioti had asked the WAPC to carry out the process as quickly as possible so she could provide certainty to local landowners, residents and businesses.
The amendment process was required by law to be completed in full before the decision could be finalised.
The decision not to proceed with the amendment took into account community concern over potential impacts the proposal would have on local homes, businesses and heritage.
Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:
"We made a clear election commitment not to proceed with the amendment and have delivered on it.
"The amendment process was completed as quickly as possible, in line with State planning legislation.
"This decision gives landowners certainty on the future of their properties."
