- International education consortium to focus on increasing WA's market share of international students
Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery will join key international education stakeholders today for the latest of the McGowan Government's Industry Engagement Consortiums.
The international education consortium will focus on increasing Western Australia's market share of international students and establishing WA as the leading provider of international education in the Asian region.
The consortiums enable industry stakeholders to provide important feedback on the McGowan Government's key election commitments, and outcomes will feed into future decision-making.
International education and training is Australia's third biggest export, after iron ore and coal, and is the nation's biggest services export representing 30.8 per cent of Australia's total services exports.
In 2016, Western Australia's export income from international education and training totalled $1.551 million, ranking WA fourth behind other States in Australia.
The State Government has committed $2 million over five years to implement a long-term international education strategy to grow WA's market share.

"WA's top source of countries for international students are China and India, and future international education enrolment growth is likely to also come from Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
"Western Australia is a close neighbour to Asia and we should be attracting even more international students to our State.
"We are determined to develop lasting working relationships with stakeholders in the international education industry, in order to continue to grow the industry and create jobs."

"Education tourism is a potential growth area and we must ensure the international education and tourism sectors work together to maximise the benefit of Perth for international education providers.
