Premier Mark McGowan has congratulated Curtin University on the launch of its new Dubai campus in the United Arab Emirates yesterday (September 10).

Curtin is currently recruiting students and staff for the campus, with some foundation programs to commence later this year ahead of degree programs launching in 2018.

The campus will initially offer business, media, project management, education, and information technology courses, and is looking to expand its course offerings in the coming years.

Dubai has positioned itself as an education hub for the region, with a number of international institutions attracting students from across the Middle East, Indian sub-continent and Africa.

Curtin also operates campuses in Sarawak, Malaysia (opened in 1999), and Singapore (2008).

The Government of Western Australia office in Dubai has provided advice and support to Curtin throughout the process of establishing the new campus.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"International education is an important growth sector for Western Australia, through both attracting international students to Perth and local institutions establishing a presence overseas.

"It is an important component of the McGowan Labor Government's Plan for Jobs, through education tourism.

"Curtin University was recently ranked in the top one per cent of universities across the globe, making this new campus an attractive destination for students across the United Arab Emirates and beyond.

"I congratulate Curtin on its new campus and look forward to seeing the fruits of collaboration between students and staff here in Western Australia and Dubai."
