New judicial appointment to the Supreme Court announced
- John Vaughan SC appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court
- Appointment effective from April 30, 2018 and fills the vacancy left by the resignation of His Honour Justice Peter Martino
Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of a senior judicial officer.
Barrister John Vaughan SC has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
Comments attributed to Attorney General John Quigley:
"Mr Vaughan SC is a highly experienced legal practitioner who was admitted to practice in 1992 after completion of articles of clerkship at Sly & Weigall, Barristers and Solicitors.
"He practised for many years as a barrister and solicitor, before joining the Independent Bar in 2007 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2013.
"Mr Vaughan SC continues to practice as a barrister at the Independent Bar from Francis Burt Chambers.
"He has practised predominantly in the area of insolvency, commercial litigation and taxation, appearing mainly in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Federal Court of Australia.
"Mr Vaughan SC has represented insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, large to mid-sized corporations and Commonwealth and State entities.
"Mr Vaughan SC has been a member of numerous professional bodies and associations throughout his legal career, including as a member of the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia, Law Society of WA, Western Australian Bar Association and the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.
"He is also a past Chairperson of the Insolvency and Construction Law Committee.
"I congratulate Mr Vaughan SC on his appointment. With a legal career spanning more than 25 years, he will bring a wealth of experience to the bench of the Supreme Court and I wish him well in his new role."
