  • New $3.2 million shared path stretching 4.2 kilometres to benefit City of Rockingham residents
  • State and local government collaborate to create better transport and recreational opportunities in Rockingham area

A new $3.2 million pedestrian and bike path in Baldivis will significantly improve connectivity and safety for local residents within the City of Rockingham.

The completion of the 4.2 kilometre Safety Bay Road shared path provides the missing link between the Baldivis town centre and Warnbro train station, and also connects with existing bike paths to the Rockingham city centre and the coast.

The project, which was jointly funded by the State Government through the Perth Bicycle Network Grants program and the City of Rockingham, will separate pedestrians and cyclists from motorists to ensure everyone is able to travel safely and to help reduce congestion.

Each year, the State Government provides grant funding assistance to local government authorities for cycling infrastructure and the development of bike plans through the Perth Bicycle Network and Regional Bicycle Network grants.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"I've lived in Rockingham for more than 25 years and it is always a welcome sight to see new transport infrastructure being improved.

"The new Safety Bay Road shared path will connect the Baldivis town centre and Warnbro train station, improving connectivity and safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

"The path will also connect existing bike paths that run to the Rockingham city centre and along the coast, creating more transport and recreational opportunities for local residents.

"I am very pleased to open the new shared path in Baldivis today and I look forward to continuing to work with local governments to enhance transport in our communities."

Comments attributed to Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby:

"This shared path will make residents healthier and safer.

"Cycling is a popular pastime but many people are put off because they are worried about being knocked down by a car or truck.

"Having a dedicated major shared pathway through the centre of Baldivis will encourage more people to take up a healthy pastime and explore their local community.

"Baldivis needs quality infrastructure and this pathway is a valuable addition to our local community which will be enjoyed by thousands of people."
