Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery officially opened Rapids Landing Primary School today after it opened its doors for the 2018 school year to more than 140 students.

The $17.1 million school has been designed for modern learning and has a unique finish which maximises natural light.

The school's facilities for kindergarten to Year 6 students include 12 general classrooms, three early childhood classrooms, a library, art and craft room, covered assembly area, music room, dental therapy unit and canteen.

Students also have the use of hardcourts and a shared school and community oval.

The setup of the school had strong community support, ensuring broader involvement in creating the school's vision and opportunities to meet the diverse needs and interests of students and the community.

The school leadership team, school board, P&C and the broader community were able to contribute to the design of the logo and uniform, and naming the teaching blocks after favourite local beaches and school factions after local caves.

In another boost for the South-West region, construction of Margaret River Senior High School's $30 million expansion will begin in May.

The first stage of works will include a double-storey building with 16 classrooms, a science block with five laboratories, a sports hall, fitness centre and change rooms.
