Queen's Baton touches down in Western Australia

The Queen's Baton Relay starts its Western Australian leg in Albany this morning and begins its six-day journey through the State to officially herald April's Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
Local community legends will carry the Queen's Baton from Albany, north through Manjimup, Bridgetown and Bunbury.
The relay will also pass through Rockingham, Rottnest Island, Fremantle, South Perth, Burswood Park, Perth, Kings Park, City Beach, Scarborough, Hillarys, Quinns Rocks, Wanneroo, Guildford and Karratha, where it leaves on Tuesday, February 27.
More than 310 Western Australians will carry the Queen's Baton over the six days and local communities have celebrations planned along the way.

The Queen's message is held in the baton and will be read aloud at the GC2018 Opening Ceremony on April 4, 2018 to officially open the Games on the Gold Coast.
The Queen's Baton has been on the road in Australia since December 24, 2017. About 3,800 Australian batonbearers will have been involved over a 100-day journey to every State and Territory.

"This relay is a wonderful chance to celebrate local community spirit and honour people from all walks of life, such as sport, arts, education and charities, who will carry the Queen's Baton.
"The Queen's Baton Relay started at Buckingham Palace on March 13 last year and has been through the Commonwealth to Cameroon, Nigeria, Barbados, Canada, the Falkland Islands, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Samoa and is now currently in Australia before finishing on the Gold Coast."
