Proposals are being sought from architects to design the refurbishment of Balcatta Senior High School and preliminary design work should commence in September 2017.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and Balcatta MLA David Michael visited the school today to tour the facilities and meet staff.

The McGowan Government is investing in upgrading existing schools so that students can get the best education they deserve in well maintained facilities.

A total of $50 million was allocated to redevelop Balcatta Senior High School. This is part of a $381 million investment in public school infrastructure across Western Australia.

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"An investment in Balcatta Senior High School will see an investment in state-of-the-art facilities at the school.

"This is part of our commitment to provide outstanding education facilities that support students' educational needs."

Comments attributed to Balcatta MLA David Michael:

"This is an important first step. Once we have an architect we can begin the process of community consultation.

"It is important that we make sure the redevelopment reflects what the students, staff and the community need, so that consultation is important.

"Teachers and students have been doing a great job in ageing facilities but it is important for students to learn and staff to teach in the best possible environment."
