State Budget a boon for Broome boaties

Broome's water-based tourism operators and local boating enthusiasts are set to benefit from significant State Government investment in infrastructure projects.
  • $9.7 million for upgrades to boating facilities in the town
  • $1 million for planning for new maritime infrastructure in Broome

Broome's water-based tourism operators and local boating enthusiasts are set to benefit from significant State Government investment in infrastructure projects.

The McGowan Government has allocated $9.7 million in the State Budget to upgrade boating facilities at Entrance Point and Town Beach, plus $1 million to kick-start planning for new maritime infrastructure.

The upgrades at Entrance Point will improve facilities, safety and access to many of the water-based activities around Broome.

It is expected that the upgrades will include new public toilets, vehicle and trailer parking, construction of an access stairway and an extension to the flexmat hardstand to enable safer boat launching. Plans also include realignment of Kavite Road to provide a more direct route to Entrance Point and reduce traffic through the Port Drive industrial area and Broome Port.

These infrastructure investments are expected to assist the local tourism industry and create local jobs.

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"This investment will give the local tourism industry, the infrastructure they need to run their businesses efficiently and expand to meet growing demand.

"Boating and fishing are a big part of life here, and businesses and recreational boaties have been waiting a long time for better, safer boating facilities."

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The State Government is committed to working with the local community to progress planning for new maritime infrastructure in Broome.

"The Broome Boat Harbour Advisory Group will play an important role as we examine various sites and determine what can be accommodated given the challenges of the local coastline."
