  • At least 129 small lot houses, apartments, townhouses and land packages
  • Government secures 185 jobs for construction industry

The long-awaited redevelopment of the former Hainsworth primary school site in Girrawheen is scheduled to start in October 2017 following the announcement today by Housing Minister Peter Tinley of a development partner for the project.

The Yolk Property Group/Ventura Home Group consortium was chosen to partner the Department of Communities after a comprehensive procurement process.

The development will have an innovative approach to home design and sustainability. The total project value is estimated at $21.8 million, with the Department of Communities providing the land and collaborating with Yolk/Ventura Home Group to deliver the project.

The highly anticipated Hainsworth project will generate and support 185 jobs during the construction phase and deliver affordable, diverse and environmentally sustainable land and housing options for first homebuyers, families and downsizers.

The Minister also unveiled the project's new name - The Amble Estate - which captures the leisurely lifestyle awaiting future residents.

The Amble Estate will comprise at least 129 dwellings, with a mix of small lot house and land packages, apartments and townhouses.  It will also offer private, social and shared equity housing opportunities.

The 4.2 hectare project site is close to integrated and co-ordinated transport links in an already established suburb.  It is also near a range of amenities such as shopping centres, schools, parks and other recreational facilities.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister Peter Tinley:

"The proposal submitted by Yolk/Ventura Home Group was most closely aligned to the Department of Communities' vision and objectives for the project.

"It is expected that all land and dwellings for sale in The Amble Estate will be priced below Perth median prices, and will be affordable in the context of average household incomes within the City of Wanneroo.

"A number of dwellings will also be made available under the State Government's shared equity initiative, making the purchase of a new home even more affordable for low to middle income earners.

"About 11 per cent of dwellings within the development will be retained for social housing. This unique infill project will deliver affordability, environmental sustainability, design quality, diversity and integration."

Comments attributed to Girrawheen MLA Margaret Quirk:

"I am a great supporter of redeveloping the former Hainsworth site and have lobbied seven successive Liberal and National housing ministers in the previous coalition government to take this issue in hand.  They all failed to deliver.

"So it is with a great sense of satisfaction that I see the McGowan Government, in partnership with the developers, breathing new life into the area with an innovative and contemporary approach to housing.

"This project will build on the transformation in Girrawheen over the past two decades and The Amble Estate will fill the gap in the area's existing housing market with affordable, diverse and sustainable options for those seeking to be part of our thriving community."
