Hon. Mark McGowan
The Western Australian Government will donate $1 million to help the people of Türkiye and Syria as they deal with the aftermath of one of the deadliest earthquakes to hit the region.
The donation will be shared equally between the Türkiye and Syria appeals established by the Australian Red Cross and UNICEF Australia.
It will be used to support humanitarian aid for those who have been affected by the devastating earthquakes that have destroyed homes and livelihoods.
In Türkiye and Syria, tens of thousands of people have lost their lives in the disaster and thousands more remain missing.
The State Government will continue to work with the Commonwealth wherever possible to support relief efforts.
Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:
"My thoughts and sympathies, and those of all Western Australians, are with the people of Türkiye and Syria in this very difficult time.
"The scale of the destruction of homes and livelihoods and loss of loved ones in this disaster is incredibly tragic.
"As the scale of the earthquake tragedy's devastation continues to grow, every contribution counts, and I hope these funds deliver some relief to those impacted."
Comments attributed to Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Tony Buti:
"This is a distressing time for the Turkish and Syrian communities of Western Australia.
"I extend my deepest sympathies to them and those families who have lost loved ones, and hope these funds deliver much-needed support on the ground."
