Awards acknowledge role of accessible research communication

The inaugural Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) Science Communication Awards launched today aim to promote the exceptional minerals research happening here in Western Australia through high quality research communication skills.

The inaugural Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) Science Communication Awards launched today aim to promote the exceptional minerals research happening here in Western Australia through high quality research communication skills.

The awards recognise the importance of researchers being able to broadly communicate their work to improve awareness and the impact of it in industry.

The MRIWA Science Communication Awards aim to, amongst other things:

  • showcase and reward exceptional science communicators in Western Australia who are involved in minerals research;
  • showcase and promote the minerals research occurring here to build connections between researchers and industry; and
  • inspire the next generation of scientists and mining professionals shaping the future of the State's mining industry.

The Awards are open to industry professionals, students, researchers and academics who are undertaking minerals research here in Western Australia. Applications will be in the form of a 3 minute video.

Professional development opportunities will be offered to shortlisted finalists to further develop and refine their science communication skills. First prize will be $5,000 with the winner announced at the Advance Net Zero Mining conference on the 29 August 2023.
