Three major highway intersections in Perth's eastern suburbs have today received more than $28 million worth of funding for upgrades.

The projects are part of the announcement of a wider $200 million infrastructure package that will bust congestion, improve safety and create 1,000 local jobs.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti today announced upgrades to the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Apple Street along with upgrades to Great Eastern Highway and Old Northam Road in Sawyers Valley and Wooroloo.

Works at Great Northern Highway and Apple Street in Upper Swan will create 90 jobs with construction expected to begin in 2021.

Construction on Great Eastern Highway will begin on the Sawyers Valley end in mid-2020 and at the Wooroloo end in late 2020. These works are expected to generate around 70 local jobs.

These upgrades are a part of a $200 million infrastructure package, announced today in conjunction with the Federal Government, that will ease congestion and create around 1,000 local jobs.

Four other road projects have been funded through this package, along with a new train station in the Peel region.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We've negotiated a new $200 million infrastructure package that will see road upgrades take place across Perth, busting congestion, boosting safety and creating local jobs.

"In the Perth Hills, two intersections connecting Great Eastern Highway and Old Northam Road - one in Sawyers Valley and one in Wooroloo - will be upgraded to improve safety.

"The upgrades, worth $14.4 million, will create 70 jobs and reduce the risk of serious crashes.

"Another intersection upgrade at Great Northern Highway and Apple Street in Upper Swan, will see a new roundabout at the intersection, to help improve safety and reduce congestion as population in the area continues to grow."

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

"As a local Perth Hills resident I know how important these roads are for our community.

"These upgrades will improve safety, particularly given the number of heavy vehicles that use these routes daily.

"These projects will create local jobs and opportunities for local businesses to tender on works."
