METRONET's Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension tender reaches next phase

• Two construction consortiums reach next stage of tender process to build two major METRONET projects
• Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension closer to construction phase
• Both rail lines to support residential growth and reduce congestion
• Construction is expected to begin later this year, creating thousands of jobs 

Two construction consortiums have proceeded to the next stage of the tender process to build the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link (TCL) and Yanchep Rail Extension (YRE) projects.

METROconnex (Coleman Rail, Clough and Georgiou Group) and NEWest Alliance (CPB Contractors and Downer) will now be required to provide a detailed bid indicating how they plan to construct the projects, before a contract to the successful bidder is awarded in late 2019.

The two projects will be delivered under one package as part of a bundled competitive alliance model, with both to be built by the successful alliance team.

More than 3,000 jobs are expected to be created over both projects, with the decision to bundle the projects expected to deliver better value for money.

The 17.5 kilometre TCL project will link the Thornlie and Cockburn Central train stations, and build two new stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road.

The YRE is a 14.5 kilometre project to extend the Joondalup Line from Butler to Yanchep, with new stations at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.

Construction is expected to begin this year.
