Business cases for two key METRONET projects - the Joondalup line extension to Yanchep and the Thornlie Line Extension - have now been submitted to Infrastructure Australia.
The two McGowan Government METRONET commitments are crucial for supporting Perth's continued population growth and creating new local jobs.
The METRONET team is now working on detailed project definition plans for the 13.8 kilometre extension of the Joondalup Line to Yanchep and the 17.5km connection between Thornlie and Cockburn stations. Both projects will be delivered over a four-year period.
The Yanchep extension will include construction of three stations at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep - each of which will be an accessible and vibrant community asset.
Meanwhile, the Thornlie Line Extension will have new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road in Canning Vale.
Importantly, the METRONET team will be undertaking detailed land use planning around new stations to include appropriate density and a variety of land uses, while value capture opportunities will be identified.
An industry briefing was held on July 26 to familiarise local engineering and design consultancies with METRONET's land use strategies, priorities, timeframes and likely scopes of work, to assist them in preparing future bids.
There was also a recent community forum for METRONET in Harrisdale to gauge local views on the Thornlie Line Extension.
The METRONET team will soon be issuing its first two tenders, to assist with the business cases and Project Definition Reports for the proposed Karnup Station and bus depot, along with the new Midland and Bellevue stations.
Further requests for quotations and tenders for other elements of METRONET will be released progressively over the next 12 months.
