McGowan Government election commitment underway, supporting local jobs
The McGowan Government has welcomed a $12.4 million contribution from BHP towards the Port Hedland Spoilbank Marina project.
Works currently underway on the Spoilbank Marina project include earthworks to level out the site, construction of the breakwater and establishing access roads.
To date, 52 per cent of project spend has been awarded to Pilbara-based businesses and 36 per cent towards registered Aboriginal businesses.
Tender applications for Package 3 works for the construction of marine structures are currently being assessed, with the preferred tender expected to be announced in October.
An expression of interest has also been issued to local Kariyarra artists and creatives to attend a workshop to develop public art concept designs for the marina.
When complete, the new marina will include a four-lane boat ramp, 21-boat pen marina with the capacity to expand to 80 pens, trailer parking for up to 200 vehicles and public amenities.
