Steph Underwood is the Deputy Director General, Science and Innovation, Industry and Corporate Capability at the Western Australian Department of Energy and Economic Development. Steph and her team build the State's capacity through targeted support, fostering science, innovation and industry capability, while ensuring effective and efficient administration of DEED’s financial assistance and equity programs, and business support functions.

Steph has 10 years' experience in the public sector, specialising in cross-government coordination, service delivery, and continuous improvement. She joins from Tourism WA, where she was Executive Director, Strategy and Engagement, and previously held senior roles within Fire and Emergency Services.

Holding an Honours degree in Political Studies and a Bachelor of Commerce, Steph is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has served as Chair of South Coastal Women's Health Services, mentored with Leadership WA, and was a finalist for the Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Award.
