The report provides the Western Australian Parliament and the community with an overview of our performance, alongside budget papers and other strategic documents. It offers transparency, accountability, and compliance with legislative and government policy requirements, while highlighting key achievements and outlining the Department’s functions, operations and performance over the period.
In 2024–25, Western Australia’s strong and diversifying economy continued to drive demand for a highly skilled workforce. The Department responded by expanding access to vocational education and training (VET) and investing in future-focused initiatives to meet industry needs.
Two new Centres of Excellence in clean energy and defence were established under the National Skills Agreement, positioning WA as a global leader in emerging industries. These centres are creating pathways into high-growth sectors and ensuring Western Australians are equipped for the jobs of tomorrow.
Record high training enrolments continued in 2024, supported by free and low fee courses across priority industries including aged and disability care, early childhood education, nursing, construction and hospitality. The extension of the Fee Free TAFE Construction Agreement added seven new pre-apprenticeship courses, further strengthening pathways into WA’s building and construction sector.
Apprenticeship completions reached their highest level in a calendar year since 2010 with a record number of apprentices in training throughout 2024.
Participation in the Public Sector Commission’s Agency Capability Review provided valuable insights to strengthen workforce planning and leadership in the VET sector.
These initiatives supported record numbers of Western Australians to gain the skills needed in high-demand industries and contribute to a thriving, future-ready workforce.
