Last updated:

The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) has developed a package of guidelines to support commencement of the Petroleum Legislation Amendment Act 2024.

The package of guidelines include:

  • Applying to add regulated substance rights to a petroleum title;
  • Criteria for assessment: Petroleum, geothermal energy and greenhouse gas exploration permits; and
  • Application for the declaration of an identified greenhouse gas storage formation.

An information sheet has been developed to assist stakeholders with navigating the package of guidelines for the purposes of the consultation. The information sheet includes a more detailed overview of the content and purpose of each guideline.

The department is now inviting stakeholder feedback on these documents.

A response will be provided to each submission received. All submissions will be collectively published and made available to the public in response to submissions documents.

Submissions will be published verbatim, with the submitter listed.

The closing date for submissions is 8 March 2026 at 4pm AWST.

Please note that the closing date is final and no extensions of time will be granted.

All written submissions can be sent via email to rec.consultation@dmpe.wa.gov.au.
