South Metropolitan TAFE is one of Australia’s largest and most diverse training providers, delivering more than 300 qualifications to over 30,000 students each year across 12 campuses in Perth and Peel.
Nationally recognised as Australia’s leading defence industry trainer at the 2024 Defence Connect Awards, SM TAFE leads the Defence Industry Skills Centre of Excellence – a dedicated initiative focused on strengthening Australia’s sovereign defence capability now and into the future.
The Centre provides a single front door for industry to access training and workforce development solutions. It is driving curriculum innovation, clear pathways, tailored programs and higher apprenticeships to skill, upskill and reskill Australians for defence industry careers. A key priority is preparing the workforce for AUKUS, including nuclear-powered submarine sustainment as well as naval shipbuilding, maintenance and sustainment.
In partnership with government, industry, universities and TAFEs, the Centre is equipping a highly skilled, inclusive and job-ready workforce. Its programs are inspiring thousands of people to pursue rewarding careers in naval engineering, cyber security, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.
