The purpose of the Mining Amendment Regulations 2025 (formerly the Mining Amendment Regulations 2024) is to amend the Mining Regulations 1981 to establish the regulatory framework supporting the Designated Tenement Contact (DTC) system introduced into the Mining Act 1978 under sections 17 and 162(2)(ec). The DTC framework delivers key structural reforms to the communication system for mining tenements by creating a single, accountable point of contact, modernising engagement between DMPE and tenement holders, and strengthening the accuracy and legal integrity of the mining register.
The Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is seeking public comment on the Designated Tenement Contact (DTC) amendments to the Mining Regulations 1981.
These amendments:
- create a mandatory requirement for provision of Designated Tenement Contact (DTC) details;
- require applicants and holders of tenements to provide physical address details; and
- make minor administrative updates, e.g. the definition of the Australian Joint Ore Reserves Code (JORC)
Submissions will be made available to the public in a consultation summary, including verbatim comments and submitter names (organisation or individual).
Submissions closed 27 September 2024.
