Delegation has been granted under Section 20 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 to authorise the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) to administer the clearing provisions for mining and petroleum activities regulated under:
- the Mining Act 1978
- the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967
- the Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969
- the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982
- a government agreement (State Agreement Act) administered by the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
Applications must be submitted through DMPE’s Resources Online system for native vegetation clearing permits related to land that is:
- either mineral or petroleum tenure granted under one of the above-mentioned Acts;
- a State Agreement Act; or
- a crown lease issued pursuant to a State Agreement Act.
If the land on which clearing is proposed has any areas NOT covered by the above, the application must be submitted to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER). You can find an overview of DWER’s clearing assessment process on the DWER one-stop shop.

- applications for an amendment to a clearing permit;
