Overview

Members of the Science and Technology Council (the Council) provide strategic leadership and oversight of the implementation of Western Australia’s 10-year Science and Technology plan.

This Statement of Purpose from the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification sets out the Department’s expectations regarding the Council’s operation and contribution.

Contribution

Members of the Council play a vital role as trusted advisors and ambassadors for science and technology in WA. They bring strategic insight, foster collaboration, and promote WA’s science and innovation capabilities.

Members:

  • Offer strategic advice to guide the implementation of the 10-Year Science and Technology Plan through independent, evidence-based, and forward-looking perspectives.
  • Promote Western Australia’s strengths in science and technology to support economic growth, societal wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
  • Connect sectors by building bridges between government, research, industry and international partners; facilitate dialogue across sectors; and support WA’s interests in science and technology forums and networks.
  • Build capability by sharing best practice and supporting public engagement activities that raise awareness of the role of science in society.
  • Represent science as credible ambassadors by promoting transparency, inclusivity, and diversity in science and innovation; and communicating the value of science in addressing complex challenges.
  • Contribute actively to the Council work through participation in meetings, working groups, advisory requests, and priority-setting.
