About

Launched in 2006, Western Australia's (WA) Innovators of the Year has celebrated local businesses, government entities and young people that have developed an outstanding innovative product, technology or service for 20 years. 

The Emerging Innovation Award is awarded to a WA applicant who has developed an outstanding innovative product, technology, process or service that that has not yet generated material commercial revenue at the time of application submission, and demonstrates an economic, social and/or environmental benefit to WA.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $60,000 (excl. GST) and the benefits of a PhD student, with a runner-up to receive $15,000 (excl. GST).

In 2026, there are six finalists for the Emerging Innovation Award:


Atherid Therapeutics

Atherid Therapeutics' vision is to redefine the treatment of cardiovascular disease, transforming care from lifelong risk management to durable plaque clearance, preventing death and disability. We have developed a first-in-class drug, ATH01, designed to clear this fatty build-up directly.

CAD Spectral Technologies

CAD Spectral technologies is manufacturing a special type of camera for heart disease monitoring. We call it SPECTRA-Mini. SPECTRA-Mini is a portable medical imaging device that screens for coronary artery disease (CAD) through a four-second, non-invasive eye scan.

Genvis

Genvis has built the integrated technology response to one of the most persistent gaps in Australia's family and domestic violence (FDV) system.

Materia Health

MateriaPOD™ is a world-first universal preservation platform designed to safely transport living biological materials, including donor organs and tissues for transplantation, blood products for defence and emergency care, and reproductive cells for veterinary applications.

Oto Medicines

Spritz‑OM is a novel, patent‑protected nasal spray designed to prevent middle ear infections (otitis media) in children - one of the most common and burdensome childhood diseases worldwide.

ROC Technologies, trading as WaveX

WaveX is a renewable energy technology based in Perth. Recognising the significance of the State’s sovereign ocean resource, WaveX reimagined wave energy conversion through the development of its D‑Spar Power Platform – a reliable source of autonomous electricity in high value and strategic marine locations for operators and users of coastal infrastructure.
