About

This Health and Medical Life Sciences Local Capability Fund aims to assist Western Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that operate in this sector or are in partnership with a company in this field, with the costs of engaging external expertise to carry out the implementation and third-party certification of national and international standards.

The level of funding support is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) and up to a maximum of $20,000 per successful applicant. This is in line with the National and International Standards Compliance Round of the Local Capability Fund

The round is now closed.

Step 1 - check eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for assistance under the program. However, this does not automatically entitle applicants to assistance as the grants program is highly competitive and limited grants are available.

  • Be a company that operates in the Health and Medical Life Science sector, or is in partnership with a company in this field for the purpose of this accreditation.
  • Be registered for GST (or provide an explanation why your business isn’t registered);
  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN);
  • Be a company or trustee incorporated in Australia;
  • Be a for-profit organisation or business, (i.e not-for-profits and charities are ineligible);
  • Have been operating for at least three years at the time of submitting an application for funding;
  • Have its principal place of business (operating facility) in Western Australia and continue to be based in Western Australia for at least the next 12 months following application submission date; and
  • Employee less than 200 people;
  • Submit your application prior to the closing time of 5pm (AWST) on Tuesday, 8 March 2023.

Previous recipients of funding through the Industry Facilitation and Support Program (IFSP) or the LCF are eligible to apply, subject to:

  • The business having complied with the requirements of the Financial Assistance Agreements entered into for the prior funding - including all reporting requirements; and
  • The business having received no more than $300,000 in grant funding under the LCF program and its predecessor (the IFSP) in the last five years, including this application. Any funding received as part of the $10 million COVID-19 LCF Rounds run in 2020/21 does not go towards this limit.

Step 2 - how to apply

In order to be considered eligible, and to be included in the evaluation process, an application must be received via the LCF SmartyGrants online portal by 5pm AWST, Tuesday 8 March 2023. Applications received after this time will not be considered.

Step 3 - completing your application

Applications are assessed against their eligibility as well as the round objectives, and are then scored against the following evaluation criteria. To complete your application you are required to demonstrate:

  • Relevance and Need
  • Level of Impact
  • Capability, Capacity and Financial Viability
  • Value for money

In addition, the following financial liability and risk documents are required at application:

  • Competitive quotes for the activity the business is seeking funding for.  It is expected that the business will get at least two quotes for each activity.
  • Declaration of solvency signed by the Director(s) of the business.
  • Financial or annual report for the last financial year.

Step 4 - assessment process

The Department will convene an evaluation panel to score and assess shortlisted applications based on the criteria, and to make recommendations for funding.

To assist with their decision-making, the panel may seek advice from individuals with expertise in the area/s under consideration. They may also request further information from applicants if needed, to support claims against the evaluation criteria.

Panel deliberations and all related information and material are strictly confidential, subject to the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 1992.

The final approval for applicant funding lies with the Department.

The Department’s decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
