Lixa is the 2022 WA Innovator of the Year Awards' Wesfarmers Wellbeing Platinum Award winner for NeoX, a platform technology mitigating antimicrobial resistant bacterial infections.

Lixa’s mission is to resolve recurring microbial infections and contaminations for anyone, anything and anywhere.

By 2050, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is expected to result in 10 million deaths globally. AMR happens when harmful microbes develop the ability to survive or become resistant to antimicrobials such as antibiotics – which unfortunately happens faster than new antibiotics can be developed.

Lixa has found a potentially game-changing solution that rescues existing antibiotics from bacterial resistance by dissolving the bacterial biofilm: the protective coating surrounding bacterial colonies.

Biofilms are impenetrable to antibiotics or even the immune system, and underlie 80% of chronic, recurring infections.

The Western Australia Innovator of the Year program has showcased innovative and entrepreneurial individuals, businesses and creative minds since 2006.
