Completed Abandoned Mines Program Projects

Rehabilitating abandoned mines in Western Australia.
Last updated:

Extensive mining has occurred in Western Australia since the mid-1800s resulting in tens of thousands of abandoned mine features across the State. The Abandoned Mines Program uses funds generated through the Mining Rehabilitation Fund to rehabilitate abandoned mines in the State.

Abandoned mine features are disturbances to the land caused by mining and/or exploration such as mine shafts, constructed landforms, buildings and abandoned equipment for which no individual, company or organisation can be held responsible for rehabilitation. An abandoned mine site may comprise multiple features.
