The department's Petroleum and Geothermal Register is a public registry that, pursuant to the Petroleum, Geothermal Energy and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 1967Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Submerged Lands) Act 1982 and Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Pipelines Act 1969, allows titles to be searched and extracts of these and associated documents taken for a prescribed fee.

The Petroleum and Geothermal Register comprises two parts, outlined below. 

Part 1: Title details

  • title number, term, nominee Page 1
  • title holders Page 2/3
  • annual fee receipt details Page 4
  • securities or insurance held against the title Page 5
  • endorsements of matters impacting on title (e.g. Declaration of location, application for surrender etc.) Page 6-7
  • schedule of transfers and dealings on the title Page 8/9
  • memorials of transfers and dealings Page 10
  • variation, suspension, extension Page 11
  • special notices Page 12 

Part 2: Title instrument

This is the original title instrument issued to the holder and contains details of the current term, including:

  • a description of the title area and plan
  • conditions of the grant incorporating the work program
  • any variations to the title e.g. Variation of the work program

In addition to the above, registered instruments of transfer and dealing documents (or at least a summary) can be searched and extracts copied. These transfers and dealings are identified in the Register.

Costs

Clients should be aware that a typical Title Register Part 1 is 10 to 15 pages and part two varies between eight to 20 pages. In some instances, either part can be considerably more.

The Schedule of fees lists the current fee for a Search of a Petroleum, Geothermal Energy or Greenhouse Gas Title.

Please note: Free searches of the Register can be conducted using the Petroleum and Geothermal Register (PGR) online system.

Lodging the submission

Lodgement of the Request for Search of Petroleum, Geothermal Energy or Greenhouse Gas Title is to be completed online via the Petroleum and Geothermal Register. This is the department's approved and only method of submitting this request.
