At the heart of regional development is quality of life. Making our regions great places to live is influenced by factors such as jobs, services, infrastructure, technology, and community. Strong economies with a mix of industries including mining, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy are important for growth and also support local businesses, arts and culture, and community groups to create vibrant communities.

The Department and Commissions, together with the Western Australian Regional Development Trust, and Regional Development Council, are committed to supporting the Regional Development portfolio through initiatives such as the Regional Pensioner Travel Card, the Local Content Adviser Network, the Community Resource Centre network, and a range of Grants and Funding.

The Regional Development Framework sets out how the portfolio works together, and with other agencies and tiers of government to achieve meaningful outcomes for regional WA, in the focus areas of: regional liveability; economic development, diversification, and innovation; climate resilience and low carbon transition; and Aboriginal empowerment and prosperity.
