Intergovernmental Relations

The Intergovernmental Relations Directorate is the State Government’s and Department’s key advisor on Commonwealth-State matters. It drives collaboration across the Western Australian Government on key intergovernmental policy priorities, strengthens inter-jurisdictional relationships and works to achieve better outcomes for Western Australia in relation to Commonwealth-State policy priorities. The Directorate also leads engagement with the Australian Government on the delivery of state-type services to the Indian Ocean Territories and on national security and emergency management matters.

Strategic Priorities

The Strategic Priorities Directorate focuses on key government priorities and issues that cut across multiple portfolios. It works with the Commonwealth, other government agencies and other stakeholders to deliver projects, provide strategic policy advice and develop innovative policy ideas that achieve outcomes for the WA community.

Strategic Communications

The Strategic Communications Directorate is a whole-of-government communications team that provides strategic communication support to DPC policy units, departments, and agencies on identified key government priorities.

Office of Defence Industries

The Office of Defence Industries (ODI) has been established within DPC, integrating Defence Policy and Defence West teams to make the most of the opportunities presented by AUKUS, bolster the WA Government’s capability to implement the Defence Cooperation Agreement and WA Defence and Defence Industry Strategy, and deliver cross-government coordination of key enablers to establish and support a Defence Precinct in Henderson.

Office of State Security and Emergency Management

The State Security and Emergency Management (SSEM) directorate provides advice to the Premier, Ministers and Senior Officials on matters associated with state security and emergency management policy in Western Australia. SSEM also leads engagement with the Australian Government and drives cross-government collaboration and coordination on national security and emergency management matters including Countering Foreign Interference and Countering Violent Extremism.
