System Planning

We're taking a long-term approach to modelling our electrical grid infrastructure so we can reliably meet the future energy demands of Western Australia.
Last updated:

System planning is critical to the continued supply of reliable, secure, affordable, and low emissions electricity into the future. System planning can guide policy development, investment decisions by Government and industry, identify risks, and highlight opportunities.

The Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED) is responsible for making and amending the Electricity System and Market (ESM) Rules that outline the responsibilities for system planning.

DEED has undertaken multiple system planning activities, including the Whole of System Plan, the SWIS Demand Assessment, the SWIS Transmission Planning Update and the SWIS Transmission Plan.

Stakeholder Engagement

We are currently engaging with stakeholders on the Future Energy System Outlook (FESO).

There will be opportunities for stakeholder engagement throughout the development of the FESO. More information and engagement timelines can be found on the Future Energy System Outlook web page.
