The 2029 Bicentenary is an opportunity for all Western Australians to reflect on our shared history, celebrate our State’s vibrant diversity and look toward a future grounded in reconciliation and unity.
The Western Australian Government is committed to ensuring this commemoration is planned and delivered in a way that is respectful, inclusive and shaped by the voices of communities across our State.
Before, during, and after 2029, our focus is on strengthening statewide social cohesion and belonging, showcasing Western Australia’s unique identity formed, including through the bonds between the traditional people of this land and the many migrants who have settled here over the last two centuries.
We want this Bicentenary to deliver for the future – for it to be a lasting legacy for future generations. This means an approach that brings people together and supports initiatives that are meaningful in metropolitan, regional and remote communities.
To help guide this work, three community organisations – Reconciliation WA, Community Arts Network and Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company – will play a key role in ensuring the Bicentenary is shaped by diverse voices from across Western Australia, drawing on their deep community connections and culturally informed expertise.
Through a coordinated statewide approach, the WA Government will support a commemoration that is respectful, inclusive and delivers enduring community benefit.
