Voluntary Targeted Separation Scheme 2026

Information for agencies and staff about the Voluntary Targeted Separation Scheme 2026 (VTSS 2026).
Last updated:

VTSS 2026 is part of the WA Government Fiscal Strategy for the public sector announced in the 2026-27 State Budget on 7 May 2026.

Under VTSS 2026, public sector employees can be offered and accept a severance payment to support their voluntary departure from work. Where an employee accepts a severance payment, they are restricted from being re-employed in the public sector for a set period of time.

It is anticipated that further details will be available in late May 2026.

VTSS 2026 overview

  • Non-frontline staff are eligible. Staff in outward facing roles that provide ongoing services and support directly to the public are not eligible to apply.
  • Applications are accepted from 1 July 2026 with staff to exit the public sector by early December.
  • It is voluntary so staff cannot be directed to participate.
  • Staff are invited by their agency to apply.
  • All staff potentially affected are to be informed and consulted by their agency and encouraged to seek financial, superannuation and taxation advice if they choose to consider applying.
  • Unions are being consulted.
  • A calculator is to be available to staff to estimate the compensation they receive if they decide to apply.
  • Staff will be informed by their agency once decisions are made about how VTSS 2026 is being applied in their agency.

All staff questions regarding VTSS 2026 should be directed to your agency and not through the feedback form below.
